There are times when you have plenty of free time but have no idea what to do. Here I have listed 10 ideas which are fun yet productive. See if you find the one you like.
Write a letter to your future self.
This one is fun. There is this site called “ Futureme.org ” where you can write letters to your future self. This letter will be e-mailed to you after the time span chosen by you. You can write anything and it will be safe and protected. I wrote a letter to myself which will be e-mailed to me after one year.
Take some fun classes on Skillshare
Skillshare is an online learning community where you can take unlimited online classes of any field you can think of. They have learning videos made by experts of different fields. I am currently learning calligraphy and there are many more I soon wish to learn.
There are free classes and premium classes. They charge for premium classes but it’s worth it because it gives you access to over 20,000 classes. I have given a link below. If you sign up through this particular link you will get access to all premium classes for free for 2 months. You can cancel your subscription if you don’t find it useful but I highly doubt that will happen.
Draw and Doodle
I think doodling is one of the most fun activities and almost we all do it all the time. I remember when my school notebook’s last page was always filled with variety of doodles.
So, here is one idea when you have no clue what to doodle. Draw 10 small circles and fill them or draw anything out of them. Don’t think much, just doodle. Check out mine. It’s quite embarrassing but it was fun.
Learn a new language
As previously said there is nothing better than learning. Buy a reference book or download an app (there are plenty) and start learning. Any language you are curious about or you fancy.
There are apps like MEMRISE, DUOLINGO, BEELINGUAPP…
And of course there is Skillshare .
There are these colouring books for adults which are bit more intricate and creative than the children ones, easily available online and in bookstores. It has been said that colouring is a great form of meditation. It increases your focus and patience. It clears out your mind by settling all those overwhelming thoughts.
This is the one I have:
Nature: 70 Designs to Help you De-Stress (Colouring for Mindfulness)
Bucket list – 100
Take a diary and a pen and write down all your wishes, 100 wishes. Forget if it’s possible or not, just bring it out. And make sure it reaches the 100 count. Now once you are done, take a look at it and see what can be done to make them true. If not, just preserve them, who knows, someday they may come true.
Cook something new
Find some new recipe online or from any source and make it. Don’t worry about the result; just make it with all your heart. You can bake something or you can make a beautiful dessert, anything you like.
Now one fun hack, there is this site Supercook.com where you can enter all the ingredient names you have and they can suggest a recipe. Try and share.
I am a big fan of webtoons. I used to love reading TINKLE when I was small and now I love reading webtoons. You can easily download the app with the same name “WEBTOONS” and read unlimited stories of every genre for free. They have really high quality work and it’s quite impressive.
Make your vision board. Make your goals crystal clear visible by bringing them on a physical board. Place it somewhere you can see easily and get daily boost of motivation.
I have written a complete separate blog post on vision board. Check it out.
Listen to podcasts
Podcasts are a great way to learn and have fun through listening along with doing our work. It’s similar to listening music. I have downloaded the app called “CASTBOX” in my phone and I listen to it during my commute to office and back to home.
Two of my top favourite podcasts are:
The Lavendaire Lifestyle by Aileen Xu
Oprah’s Super Soul Conversations
They are plenty more. You will definitely find something you are interested in.
Tell me if you liked any of them or you too have better fun ideas. I would love to hear. Suggestions are always welcome.
